Xuxa Rodriguez is a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellow and doctoral candidate in Art History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research meditates on the intersections between performance and visuality in contemporary art by AfroLatinx and Latinx artists, as well as representations of women of color in fashion and popular culture. She has served as a UIUC Graduate College Distinguished Fellow (2013—2016) and as a Smithsonian Latino Museum Studies Program Fellow (2014).
An activist, artist, feminist, and poet, her practice centers upon affect, bricolage, erasure, ritual, the sacred, and the sensorial as channels for spontaneous ecstatic intimacy. Her poems have appeared in White Stag, Limestone. Art. Prose. Poetry., Similar Peaks, Found Poetry Review, and Foothill.
